4-May Paint the County Purple; this is the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society's annual day set aside by wearing purple to remember those who have had cancer and those who have lost their loved ones to cancer.  Get everyone in your office to wear their purple for the day. Do something for the cancer survivors in your workplace and tell them that you are glad they beat this horrible disease.  Take a moment to remember those we have lost and most of all, fight back by doing something to help in the fight!  Remember that Kossuth County's Relay for Life is only about a month away and there is still time to help in the fight against cancer.  If you need information contact Kay Kinseth at 515-295-7068; Algona

28-May Annual Whittemore Memorial Day Parade and Program; Members of the Seely-Walsh Post #425 or the American Legion, Members of the Legion Auxiliary, and members of a local high school band march in an organized parade beginning at 9:45. A powerful and moving memorial day program, dedicated to all men and women who served in the armed forces immediately follows the parade. The program is conducted inside the Whittemore Community Center. Taps, placement of a poppy wreath and an avenue of flags containing over 110 flags of deceased members of Seely-Walsh Post #425 are on display at Noah's Park. 28-May VFW Memorial Day Service; 10:00 am service with speaker at the Burt Activity Complex followed by a retreat to the Burt Township Cemetary.  A noon lunch is served back at the Activity Complex; Burt
   
28-29-May Whittemore Fun Days; Annual community celebration featuring "Smith Amusements" Rides and concession, (sorry NO outside vendors) sponsored by the Whittemore Betterment Community Committee.  Special events on both evenings include and Old Fashioned Pie & Ice Cream Social and the serving of the "World Famous Legion Burgers".  BINGO is called both nights at 6:30 pm.  Held on Broad Street; Whittemore
