Gary Kroeger was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa and attended Northwestern University where he studied theatre, radio, television and film. It was here where he and fellow alums Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall created the Practical Theatre Company. These sketches caught the eye of Saturday Night Live producers and the three of them became regulars on the venerable late night comedy show.
After 3 years in New York on SNL, Gary moved to Los Angeles and landed a short lived series on CBS, called Spies with George Hamilton. Gary later produced his daytime chat show The George and Alana Show. Television appearances on Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Night Court and LA Law led to starring roles in the forgettable films A Man Called Sarge, The Return of the Shaggy Dog and Archie To Riverdale and Back. There are a few good films sprinkled in there, but Gary went on to host revamped versions of The Newlywed Game and the classic Beat the Clock.
Gary moved back to his hometown of Cedar Falls five years ago in order to raise his sons in a more sane environment. There Gary works as the Creative Director for Mudd Advertising, a nationwide advertising and marketing agency. In the few years Gary has starred in Man of La Mancha and I Do I Do at the Cedar Falls Playhouse.
I have had the opportunity to speak at two Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Breakfasts over the past 3 years and each time I am impressed by the vitality of this group of communities. The premise of my talk is always about the Quality of Life that we share, and too often take for granted, in the State of Iowa, and my optimistic call to action is always warmly received by this group of business leaders from these counties. I have given my presentation all around the state but it is the enthusiasm (and attendance!) that welcomes me in Kossuth Palo Alto that makes me look forward to every visit.
Economic vitality, commitment, compassion and hard work are alive and well in Kossuth and Palo Alto Counties. My thanks go to Maureen Elbert and everyone who has dedicated themselves to making their communities and the state of Iowa shining examples of Quality of Life.
